Focal Research and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas International Gaming Institute (IGI) explored the relationship between risk of gambling-related harm and the length of EGM play sessions using real-world player data.
Identifying overspenders has become a priority for operators but poses several challenges as affordable limits vary strongly between players. Focal developed effective algorithms and profiles for accurately detecting and assisting at-risk 'Overspenders'.
Data gathered during the 2019 UK Casino Trial of the ALeRT BETTOR Protection System was used to assess the impact of safer gambling interactions by UK casino staff in reducing behaviours associated with customer risk for gambling problems.
Focal Research has developed and validated the FocaL Adult Gambling Screen (FLAGS) to identify early signs of gambling risk and harm among electronic gambling machine (EGM) players as well as general gambling populations.
This paper provides an overview of best practices and lessons learned through Focal’s work in creating risk identification models using player tracking data collected from customer loyalty programs, smart cards, and online systems.
Focal conducted a series of separate surveys with adolescents aged 13-18 years and a parent within the same household to explore risk factors and environmental influences that contributed to the development of gambling-related harm.
